Mesterklasse med Zeynep Güzel

Zeynep Güzel leder Doc Station ved Berlinale Talents. Mesterklassen er for etablerte dokumentarister og skal inspirere til hvordan prosjekter kan tydeliggjøre sitt internasjonale potensial. Det blir fokus på nyttige verktøy og inspirerende eksempler knyttet til arbeidet med finansiering og utforming av audiovisuelt materiale.

I etterkant av mesterklassen vil Zeynep Güzel gi individuell tilbakemelding til inntil seks forhåndsutvalgte prosjekter. Tilbakemeldingene gjennomføres som en rundebordssamtale der involverte fra alle de utvalgte prosjektene vil lytte til hverandres tilbakemeldinger. Rommet vil være lukket for andre enn de utvalgte deltakerne.

Writing and producing content in documentaries is a rewarding yet massive undertaking with many facets to consider. A significant part of the work is generating funds from various sources to complete our production and selecting suitable incubators and training programs to support the development process and furthering our career. Learning how to combine our creative work and skills with international exposure and acknowledgment is a challenging, but also a gratifying process. At first glance, grant writing and storytelling in their broadest sense can be particularly daunting for filmmakers who are familiar with the stories they want to tell, but yet can find it riddling to determine what exactly needs to be included for the third parties who would come on board creatively and/or financially.

OM ZEYNEP GUZEL

Zeynep Güzel is a filmmaker, consultant, and the head of Doc Station at the Berlinale Talents in Berlin International Film Festival. Zeynep has produced several documentaries and written, directed, and produced her debut feature documentary Come Rain or Shine in 2019. Zeynep currently works on her feature fiction film When The Sun Comes Out with which she was a fellow of Berlin Artist in Residency at Nipkow Program and the project is funded by the Medienboard German-Turkish co-production development fund. As former head of the Yeni Film Fund in Turkey and senior consultant to the Documentary Association of Europe, Zeynep has many years of experience working with emerging and established creatives, helping them explore their artistic vision and supporting them with her knowledge of international documentary film industry and a global network of like-minded professionals. Dok Leipzig Industry, Cannes Docs, the Institute of Documentary Film and the European Film Market at Berlinale are among the many other international documentary platforms where Zeynep regularly runs workshops or mentors. She is a visiting lecturer at The Norwegian Film School in Lillehammer. Since 2022 Zeynep is the programming consultant at International Documentary Association’s biennial conference Getting Real and a member of European Film Academy.
